Interior Designer Fees in Pune: Charges, Models & What You Get
A clear explanation of percentage fees, per-square-foot charges, fixed packages and consultations. Use it to compare Pune interior design quotes on equal terms.

Interior designer fees in Pune are usually quoted in one of four ways: as a percentage of the project cost, a rate per square foot, a fixed fee for a room or scope, or a consultation charge. The fee itself matters, but the work included matters more. Two quotes with the same headline number can include very different levels of design, drawings and site visits.
This guide separates the design fee from the total interior project cost and shows what to ask before hiring a designer. For complete room-by-room execution budgets, see our detailed guide to interior design costs in Pune.
The short answer
Expect about 7.5–15% of project cost for a full project, or ₹100–300 per sq ft for a defined design-only package.
Basic consultations are commonly listed around ₹1,000–5,000. Ask for a custom quote for one room or a detailed consultation. Online price ranges often mix design-only work with full execution work.
Interior Designer Charges in Pune: Quick Comparison
| How the fee is charged | Typical Pune range | Usually suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Percentage of project cost | About 7.5–15% | Complete interiors with design and execution |
| Per-square-foot design fee | ₹100–300/sq ft | Clearly defined design-only packages |
| Fixed room or scope fee | Quoted for the defined scope | A kitchen, bedroom or another limited scope |
| Consultation only | ₹1,000–5,000 for a basic session | Planning advice before managing work yourself |
The cheapest-looking rate is not automatically the lowest total cost. A per-square-foot quote that covers drawings only cannot be compared directly with a percentage fee that also includes material choices, vendor planning and regular site visits.

How Each Interior Design Fee Model Works
1. Percentage of project cost: about 7.5–15%
The designer's fee is a percentage of the agreed project cost. This method is common for full home and office interiors because larger and more detailed projects need more planning and site work.
Ask which costs are used to work out the fee. Does it include loose furniture, appliances, other experts, civil work and taxes? The quote should also explain how the fee changes if the work or budget changes.
2. Per-square-foot fee: ₹100–300 per sq ft
Here, the design fee is multiplied by an agreed area, usually the carpet area or the area actually being designed. It can work well for a clear design package, but the quote must state how the area is measured and what you will get.
Check whether the rate includes design options, 3D views, detailed drawings, material lists and site visits. Also check whether balconies, terraces, double-height areas or partially designed rooms are counted.
3. Fixed room or scope fee
A fixed fee is useful when the work is limited to a modular kitchen, master bedroom, living room or home office. The quote should state the exact room, work included, change limit and whether buying or execution support is included. A kitchen with detailed services and custom woodwork may need more design effort than a similarly sized bedroom.
4. Basic consultation: around ₹1,000–5,000
A consultation suits homeowners who need expert advice but plan to manage purchases and contractors themselves. It may cover layout advice, colour and material choices, a quote review or a site problem. Lower price estimates usually cover a basic session. Marked-up drawings, a written recommendation, multiple rooms or a full site check may cost more. Agree on the session length and what you will get before comparing prices.

Design Fee vs Complete Interior Cost
A design fee pays for planning, ideas, drawings and advice. The complete project cost pays for materials, labour, furniture, lighting, civil work, electrical work and everything else required to build the design. Some firms quote the two separately; others combine them in one full design and execution quote.
Simple example
If a complete project budget is ₹20 lakh and the separate design fee is 10%, the design fee is ₹2 lakh. The quote must make clear whether that ₹2 lakh sits within the ₹20 lakh or is added to it, and whether taxes apply.
Never compare one designer's design fee with another designer's full execution quote. First split every quote into the same three groups: design, execution and work not included.
What Should the Interior Design Fee Include?
There is no standard package, so the quote should list the work included. A full design service may include several of these items:
- Site measurement and a record of the current space
- Space planning, furniture layouts and movement paths
- Design idea, mood, colours and material palette
- 3D views listed in the quote
- Flooring, ceiling, lighting, electrical and furniture drawings
- Kitchen, wardrobe and custom woodwork details
- Material, finish, bathroom fitting and lighting choices
- Cost estimates, product details or a bill of quantities (BOQ)
- Planning with vendors and contractors
- A set number of site visits or a clear visit schedule
More drawings are not automatically better. The right question is whether there is enough information for your contractor to price and build the work without guesswork.
What May Not Be Included?
Work left out is not a problem when it is clearly listed. It can become costly when you learn about it after work begins. Ask if the following items are included or charged separately:
+Structural, electrical, plumbing or other expert fees
+Government and PMC/PCMC approval fees
+Extra design options or changes
+Extra site visits beyond the agreed schedule
+Travel outside the listed service area
+Product buying fees or added mark-ups
+Loose furniture, appliances and styling
+GST and any other taxes that apply
Which Fee Model Fits Your Project?
Complete home or office
A percentage fee often works well when material choices, details and site needs may change during the project.
One or two clearly defined rooms
A fixed or per-room fee is easier to understand, provided the number of drawings, changes and visits is stated.
Design package without execution
A per-square-foot or fixed fee can work when you have your own contractor and need a clear set of design drawings.
Advice before a purchase or renovation
A consultation lets you start small while helping you avoid an expensive layout, material or quote mistake.

How to Compare Interior Design Quotes
Give each designer the same project details, then compare the following line by line:
- 01Scope: which rooms, areas and services are included?
- 02Work included: which drawings, 3D views, schedules and estimates will you receive?
- 03Changes: how many design and drawing changes are included?
- 04Site visits: how many visits are included and how often will they happen?
- 05Fee base: which costs or area are used to work out the fee?
- 06Buying: who buys materials and is any added mark-up clearly stated?
- 07Payment stages: which piece of work or project stage starts each payment?
- 08Work not included and taxes: what could be charged separately later?
A useful warning sign
Be careful when a quote offers a very low design rate but does not list drawings, changes, site visits or work not included. Unclear terms can cost more later than a higher but clear fee.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much do interior designers charge in Pune?
Current price guides show percentage fees of about 7.5–15% of the project cost and design-only fees of about ₹100–300 per square foot. Basic consultations often cost about ₹1,000–5,000. Fixed room fees and detailed consultations need a custom quote because the work included can differ a lot.
Are interior designer fees separate from the project cost?
They may be. Some quotes show the design fee as a separate cost, while others include it in the full design and execution price. Ask every designer to list the fee method, taxes and work not included in writing. This will help you compare quotes fairly.
What should an interior design fee include?
An interior design fee may include site measurement, space planning, design ideas, drawings, material selection, cost estimates, vendor planning and site visits. The quote should state how many design options, changes, drawings and visits are included.
Does The Firm offer a free consultation in Pune?
Yes. The Firm offers a free first consultation and site visit. For full projects, the design fee is a percentage of the project cost and is included in the full quote.
Which interior design fee model is best?
A percentage fee is often a good fit for full projects because the amount of work can change during design. A fixed room fee is easier for a small, clear job. A per-square-foot fee can work for standard design packages. A consultation fee suits homeowners who will buy materials and manage the work themselves.
